Challenges I Faced

01

Picking Up the Project

Little documentation existed, several previous contributors had left PSI, and there was essentially no project leadership in place. Getting up to speed meant reconstructing context from scratch.

02

Exchangeable Thermocouple Integration

The thermocouples needed to be exchangeable on a radioactive component — meaning all handling had to be done remotely with robotic hands, adding significant design constraints.

03

Sole Technical Driver to Production

I was the only team member with ISO GPS expertise and the technical skills to bring the project to production. The challenge wasn't a lack of support, but that team structure and roles were never clearly defined throughout the project.

SKILLS

Built at CERN. Applied at PSI.

  • ISO GPS — Learned at CERN, applied to every production drawing on Target H
  • CATIA V5 — Primary CAD tool for complex assemblies and surfacing
  • ANSYS FEA — Structural and thermal simulation under extreme beam conditions
  • AM Prototyping — Rapid iteration on design concepts before committing to production
  • DFM — Design for Manufacturing, bridging the gap from model to machined part
